Recer integrates biomethane for a more sustainable ceramic production
Recer has taken another decisive step in its decarbonisation journey by integrating biomethane, certified with Guarantees of Origin, into its ceramic production. This move reinforces the company’s long-term commitment to sustainability and the energy transition within the ceramics industry.
Developed in partnership with Goldenergy, a Portuguese supplier of 100% green electricity and natural gas, this initiative supports the growth of biomethane in Portugal. It is expected to prevent around 30 tonnes of CO₂ emissions by the end of 2025.
What is biomethane and why it matters
The energy transition is one of the greatest challenges facing industry in the decades ahead. Reducing emissions, improving energy efficiency and adopting renewable sources are no longer optional, they are essential to protect the planet and maintain competitiveness.
Biomethane is a renewable gas produced from the treatment and recovery of organic waste such as municipal and agricultural residues. Once purified, it has the same properties as natural gas and can be used safely and efficiently in industrial processes. Because it is renewable, it helps cut greenhouse gas emissions and supports the circular economy by turning waste into cleaner energy.
Green molecules for a sustainable future
By introducing biomethane into its production, Recer strengthens a commitment that is both present and forward-looking: to produce ceramics responsibly, with respect for the planet and future generations.
